A hospital bed for home use is essential for the ones who need extra care in terms of mobility or require extended time for healing. These beds provide equal care as delivered in the hospital.
Three types of hospital beds are available in the market manual, semi-electric, and fully electric. Anyone can get the beds permanently by seeking hospital bed-for-sale options or get them temporarily. In either case, the assembly of the bed is important. It might seem daunting, but it does not require much effort as most beds are assembled similarly except for some variations.
How to Get a Medical Bed for Home?
Medical beds for home are assistive equipment that fulfills the requirements of a patient, just like in a hospital, with the added comfort of home.
Patients with injury or other health conditions that could take longer to recover might need a bed permanently. In such cases, purchasing a bed is a wise decision. It is a more feasible way to get a bed according to the time requirements and aesthetics of the space. If a patient wants early discharge from the hospital, the hospital bed for sale is the best option. It is also possible to customize the bed according to the exact needs and desires of the patient.
Hospital bed rentals are great if a patient needs it for a short period. Some shops offer such beds as on the health condition of the patient. Another way is by requesting from the hospital where they can provide or fund a hospital bed for the patient. But this will take some time as the process is lengthy, so the patient has to wait for more to discharge from the hospital. After a certain period, the user must return the bed to the hospital and arrange a bed for use.
Assembly of a Hospital Bed at Home
The assembly of hospital beds at home is relatively easy. Almost all the beds, including manual, semi-electric, and fully electric beds, are assembled in the same way with little variations that depend on the model and year of manufacturing. It's just a few minutes, and the hospital bed rental is ready to use.
Step 1: Spring Part
The head and foot springs are separate sections that require latching from the center point. Set both the areas on the side with a 90° angle from each other and start attaching them. After this initial setup, straighten the base of the bed and lay it flat on the floor. Now it's time to connect the individual spring links.
Connect the spring links through the provided links. When all the links are connected, it seems like one big surface for the mattress. Before joining, make sure to lift the head spring away from the frame of a bed to give slack to the links.
Step 2: Pull the Tube of the Head Section
The pull tube is the next part of the bed to attach. If you purchased the hospital bed from the sale, this section is this temporarily attached side frame. Remove the hitch pin from the clevis pin to separate the structure from the head of the pull tube. Grab the box and extend the inner pull tube shaft with your hand until the spring button gets into the adjustment hole of the outer pull tube by creating a 'click' sound. Attach the pull tube end assembly to the lift arm of the head spring.
Step 3: Head and Footboard Attachment
Before attaching the spring base to the head or footboards, install the head or footboard caster wheels. If there are two casters with locks and two without locks, install the locking casters diagonally from each other. Regardless of the model and brand, the head and footboards are the beds' two-bed ends.
Step 4: Attaching Head and Footboard
Take the head spring section from the side and raise it until the rivets on the corner plates comes high enough to put into the corner locks on the bed ends. Move the bed end towards the head spring and place the rivets into the corner locks. Put back the bed end to its full upright position. In this way, the head spring rivets will lock into place.
Repeat the same procedure to attach the other bed end.
Step 5: Attaching Drive Shaft
The drive shaft lowers or raises the entire bed. It's a long spring-loaded shaft usually attached to a motor on the foot side of the bed. There is a 'T' device on the headboard to connect the rod, and for the foot-end attachment, the rod directly attaches to the 'T' shaft of the motor.
Remember to remove the plastic caps from each end of the drive shaft. Press the spring button on the inner shaft and put it into the outer post. Then engage the spring button into the positioning hole. This should be followed by attaching the inner shaft to the bottom gearbox output shaft on the head side of the hospital bed. Consult the instructions manual for recommended motor placement.
Maintenance and Cleaning of a Hospital Bed from sale for Home Use
A hospital bed will undergo damage or wear and tear when used for a long time. Prompt measures should be taken to ensure patient safety if there is some damage. The manual from the manufacturer has all the bed parts that are needed to be checked. Contact the respective dealer if the patient purchased the bed or other hospital bed rentals.
Proper Cleaning and maintenance keep the bed in good condition for longer. So it's also necessary to clean the bed surfaces. Powder-coated surfaces should be cleaned with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water. Make sure to dry the surface quickly after washing. Also, don't let the water go into any electrical components of the hospital bed. Dust on the inner parts makes it difficult for the bed to function properly. In this case, a caregiver should periodically clean the dust by raising and lowering the head and foot section of the hospital bed rental.
